Bartın University and MedData, a company operating in the field of health informatics, have signed a Hospital Information Systems (HIS) Educational Cooperation Protocol to strengthen the practical training of students studying in healthcare-related programs and to integrate current industry technologies into educational processes.

Under the protocol, signed by Bartın University Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akkaya and MedData Training Manager Serkan Baştuğ, the Hospital Information Systems software developed by MedData will be provided to Bartın University for educational purposes. Through this collaboration, students—primarily those enrolled in the Health Services Vocational School and the Faculty of Health Sciences—will have the opportunity to receive hands-on training using a real Hospital Information System infrastructure employed in healthcare institutions.

Through the system, students will gain practical experience in a wide range of hospital automation processes, including patient registration and admission, appointment management, electronic health record creation, outpatient clinic operations, clinical and administrative procedures, patient file management, billing, and reporting. Furthermore, thanks to the virtual hospital applications offered by the HIS infrastructure, students will be able to work with realistic healthcare scenarios that simulate actual hospital environments, enabling them to transform theoretical knowledge into practical skills while enhancing their competence in using digital health technologies.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Bartın University Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akkaya emphasized that the University adopts a practice-oriented approach to education and stated that collaborations with industry partners make significant contributions to students' professional development. He noted that incorporating contemporary health informatics technologies into educational programs will help graduates enter the workforce with stronger professional competencies.

MedData Training Manager Serkan Baştuğ highlighted the importance of integrating Hospital Information Systems, which are actively used throughout the healthcare sector, into educational programs and expressed his satisfaction with the collaboration established with Bartın University. He stated that introducing students to industry-standard software throughout their education would significantly facilitate their transition into professional practice.

The signing ceremony was attended by Prof. Dr. Özge Özgür, Director of the Health Services Vocational School; Lecturer Erhan Şeker, Vice Director of the Health Services Vocational School; and Lecturer Dr. Furkan Şahinbaş, faculty member of the Medical Documentation and Secretarial Studies Program at the Health Services Vocational School. During the ceremony, the participants discussed the effective use of the MedData Hospital Information Systems in educational activities, the enhancement of students' practical competencies, and opportunities to further strengthen university–industry collaboration through future joint projects.

The protocol signed between Bartın University and MedData is expected to make a significant contribution to strengthening practice-oriented education in the field of health informatics, enabling students to graduate with proficiency in industry-standard technologies, and supporting the education of highly qualified healthcare professionals.
