Training programs were conducted by Prof. Dr. Özge Özgür, Director of the Health Services Vocational School at Bartın University and Head of the Addiction Prevention Office, for professional staff working at the Bartın Probation Directorate within the scope of the Cooperation Protocol on Probation Services signed between Bartın University and the Bartın Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The training sessions, held at the Health Services Vocational School, addressed the topics of “Approaches to Families of Individuals with Addiction,” “The Importance of Family and Environmental Change in Combating Addiction,” and “Approaches to Individuals Demonstrating Resistance.” The sessions emphasized that addiction is a multidimensional issue affecting not only the individual but also the family and the broader social environment. Comprehensive information was provided on family systems approaches, empowerment-based interventions, motivational interviewing techniques, recovery capital, environmental risk factors, and contemporary strategies for working with resistant individuals.

Prof. Dr. Özge Özgür stated that sustainable success in combating addiction can only be achieved not merely by ending substance use, but also by strengthening family relationships, creating healthy social environments, and supporting individuals’ reintegration into society. The training also highlighted the critical role of probation professionals in strengthening families, increasing protective factors, reducing risks, and supporting clients’ motivation for change.

Conducted in an interactive format with active participation through questions and discussions, the training sessions evaluated the importance of addressing family, environmental, and professional support mechanisms together in the rehabilitation processes of individuals benefiting from probation services. The program aims to contribute to strengthening interinstitutional cooperation and enhancing the effectiveness of efforts carried out in the field of addiction prevention and intervention.
